Tonight, Don went on TV 2 News for a short spot explaining about the Explorer Post.
That night, we also went over interview techniques.

Sorry about the delays with the updates to this page. In the past few months, we have gone over:
In September, we did building clearing.
In October we did hostage negotiations.
November was use of force and radio procedures.
December only had one meeting, where we practiced unarmed defense.
Last week we practiced searching, handcuffing and marching.

Classes were held on Community Policing; what our part in the program is, and how it works. After explaining what community policing was and a video, Officer Entwistle explained how the explorers would be involved. Mostly, during bike patrol they will visit with the senior community. They will talk to them about problems in the area, as well as with the people they meet on the street. By getting to know the people and businesses, they will be more informed about what is happening in the village. This will help the PD in finding out what they need to do to make themselves more efficient.

We also covered the V&T Law, Penal Law, and traffic control.

At the last meeting we went over DWI arrests. not much there. Just explaining the procedures, field tests and how to recognize a drunk. Next meeting is bike patrol qualification. From there we are starting the bike patrol. New members will be with either a police officer or a senior explorer. We will also be part of the FPD Community Policing Program during the bike patrol.

Last week, the hostage negotiations exercise went relatively well. Our fearless leader, Don, was the hostage taker. He took three hostages, and it was Jason and Pete's responsibilty to get them back. The strike team assembled, and after negotiations did nothing but infuriate the insane hostage taker, they went in. In the end, three officers were down, one hostage was released, one hostage was hit, one hostage was DOA, and Don was DOA. It was fun for all.
