Law Enforcement Explorer Post 10





















    Law Enforcement Explorer Post 10 is part of the General Herkimer Council Boy Scouts of America and follows the rules and guidelines set up by the Boy Scouts.

    Members of the Post range in age from 14 to 19.

    Must maintain a passing average in school or be attending a GED Program.

    All members are required to attend at least 80% of the training session which are held at the Frankfort Police Department training room in the Village of Frankfort,N.Y.

    Members are also required to report any contact with any police agency whether good or bad to the Advisor, Sgt. Don Mosher of Herkimer County Sheriff's Department.

    Training comes from BMP Instructors as well as from Police Officers with extensive experience in the topics that they instruct.

    Topics instructed include: Penal, Vehicle and Traffic, and Criminal Procedure Law, forms and paper work, Use of Force, Unarmed Defense, Weapons training and Shoot Don't Shoot situations, Traffic Control, Arrest and cuffing procedures, Handling Evidence and Crime Scenes, Accident Investigation, crime prevention, Police Communications and Radio Procedure.

    Those members who have been trained in the needed topics are allowed to participate in a Ride-A-Long and Bike Patrol Programs with The Frankfort Police Department. Each Explorer who participates must follow strict guidelines, and are also required to turn in an activity report to cover the Ride-A-Long period.

    Meetings are held the SECOND and FOURTH Thursday of the month at Frankfort PD from 7 PM to 9 PM.

    Other activities Post 10 has handled include:

    -Light security for Operation Sunshine at their yearly benefit in New Hartford
    -Patrol and parking for Frankfort Days Assisting Frankfort PD with traffic at Special Events
    -Assisting the Council with special activities
    -Parking for the Herkimer County Fair
    -Presenting Crime Prevention Programs to local Scout Troops
    -Playing Mc Gruff for the Sheriff's Department's DARE Program
    -Helping to plan and put on Mock Accidents for local schools' SADD Chapters with other Emergency Services Posts
    -Camping with other explorer posts.
